The Couple's Garden is a classical Chinese garden, located at the northeastern side of the historical district of Suzhou. The garden is listed as a National Heritage Site and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

As indicated by the name "Couple's", the design theme of the garden is apparently romantic. Interestingly, the architects skillfully blended the idea of "coupling" in the design of the garden, i.e. things appear in pairs. The garden is generally pided into two sections, the east and the west, by the residential area in the middle. This unique composition makes it one of a kind among all the classical Chinese gardens. In addition, two docks are built on the south and north side in correspondence since the garden is surrounded by a canal on three sides, and easily accessible by boat.

The best views of the garden can be seen at the east section with constructed landscapes at the center. Decorative rocks from the Yellow Mountain are placed in an aesthetic way to mimic natural scenery of hills. A highly refined openwork screen with carved "Three Friends of Winter" (pine, bamboo, and plum) is in exhibit at the "Among Mountains and Water" pavilion.

The west section features more sophisticated architectures, such as the Old House with Woven Curtains and the Library Tower. Notably, the contrast of orientation, shade, and height is repeatedly utilized in the design of each inpidual unit in this section. It serves as a metaphor for the love between the host and hostess, also an echo of "coupling".
